Slight knocking sound?

Sorry if its been covered guys but i searched and it didnt help.

When my car is cold (Obviously i dont ever give it stank when it is cold) I have this slight knocking sound coming from the engine bay. I popped my hood and cant see or source the sound. My first idea was maybe its a spark plug or something wrong with the cam belt? But my plugs were new in last service and as for my cambelt, it was done 5000k's ago. When the car reaches midway on my temp guage (Thats the temp it always goes to, never been higher) the knocking stops. If i go over 3000 revs when the engine is almost warm, the knocking stops. Help?

Engine is a 4sfe - 1.8 litre curren engine.

Anything else i should be thinking about?

It might help to know what engine it is.

Piston slap? Main bearings gone?
VVT pulley? if it has one....
Valve clearances.

My money is on bearings.

- piston slap
- bearings

bearings wear quickly by using shitty oil and not changing it

piston skirt wears by excessive revs and age

Not a big deal. If it was a big deal your mechanic would have delt with it.

How long can a car run with shagged bearings? And whats the specs on difficulty to change the bearings before they totally shag? Ive got a 4AGE with 188thou ks on the clock and i have a slight feeling the bearings may be starting to go...

oh well crush it buy a celica and dun copy my 3sgte curren ;D? haha jk the bodykit has been moulded man just gota tidy mould and then pull a part from it then ill send u a pick of one on my car!
