funky sounds in my ae101 S/S

Postby Dirtbag » Thu Jun 22, 2006 7:19 pm

Firstly, get a kinda dull creaking as i set off or come to a stop, right as i start/stop rolling. Also it creaks over bumps sumtimes, the guys at ilam toyota told me this is the lower link arm? They said 120 for each side to get these replaced. Also, I am pretty sure the clutch is SHAGGED, how much work is it to replace a clutch? What kinda prices am i looking at for the clutch? (any ballpark figure) Ive heard around 400.

Car is ae101 gtapex superstrut

Creaking noise? Often in Superstrut cars the creaking isn't the lower link arm. I've driven a GTZ with superstrut with totally rooted lower link arm and it didn't make a noise! It just wandered across the road!

If the lower link arm is shagged - only put in toyota genuine new!!!
Anything else wears out in about 5,000km!!!
Cost might be a bit more but you won't regret it.

To check the lower link arm:
jack up the front and take the wheels off
using both hands, grab the strut at the bottom of the spring and try to twist the suspension around.
It should not twist at all
If it does twist, look at the small lower link arm and you will see the freeplay - this means that it needs replacing.
Toyota new ones last about 100,00km

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

The guy said that the stuff inside the box was stuffed

Just had the balljoint on the arm to the right of that box reconditioned, but creaking was there before hand.

Ive never figured that out, it looks slightly lower, but I have always put that down to being superstrut (im mainly comparing with normal gtapexs) Whats a good indication if its lowered? I am pretty sure the springs looked standard when i replaced the shocks.

Would lowered on the superstrut cause problems?

Is there anyway to check the condition of the lower link arm/check if it is whats causing the squeeks other than replacing it and seeing what happens?

maybe can do if too low.

it can be hard....

best way iv found is put it on a 4 post hoist and get under it
get some one to swing on the car and bounce it up and down, then listen/feel for creaks etc.

Whats stock height for the car?

And it squeeks with roughish bumps, anyway to simulate these apart from a rolling road or sumthing?
