And where abouts is a good place to hold of them? I am eyeing one up on trademe currently, a litre sized one for $89... that price would only get me 480cc or so from drivenperformance.co.nz etc

Go for option two if you dont mind the possibility of some oil fumes in the cabin. Less oil fumes in the engine intake path = better.

If you go vented (which I recommend) don't buy less than a 1L one or you won't get near a Motorsport NZ event (or 2L for over 2000cc). No point having to do it twice.

So it 89.99 a good price for a 1L catch can? And does the quality of the little breather matter that much? How much are K&N? I was thinking of getting a 15 dollar one from broomfish.co.nz (simota brand)

How good is the discount? On there website, the catchcan for 89 is less than half the capacity of this one.

All that stuff is fine unless you are racing... they are pretty strict on can capacity etc.

Sorry didn't want to start a new thread on this since there is already a thread open...

What is better, Tank with or without breather?
I've heard bad things about tanks with breathers and getting blowback (?) etc.

1l antifreeze container is fine. 1l for a sub 2000cc engine (as explained by Callum), been through many a scrutineering with that sucker.

PCV valve there is for a reason.
Best to leave it there doing its job.
If I wanted catch can setup on 20v I would go for 2 separate ones.
One for PCV line, and another one for intake line.
If catch can is of good design (baffels/condensers) it is safe to plumb it back.

with the 20vs you notice a HUGE difference removing the vapors from the intake. even a good can will still let some vapours through.
i run mine with both feeding into the can that doesnt plumb back.
works quite well, just every now and then you can smell a bit of oil

Personally I would tend to agree with Sergei on this one (which is how i have it set up on the caldina) - or do this:

So I would be drilling a whole and mounting a nozzle for a pipe to fit over on the side of the plenum?

Twisted, wouldn't it be a lot easier with that setup to run from the catch can to the fitting you have blocked, rather than making a new fitting? Also the filter on the rocker cover is simply going to allow you to suck air into the intake via the PCV valve and catch can, effectively a vacuum leak. PCV valve lets air be sucked out of the rocker cover and should be left in with catch can setups.
With the 4A, is there another separate vent from the sump area to relieve any pressure there? I know my 3T-GTE runs this and should be connected to the catch can as well. A bigger, better baffled vented catch can will also reduce fuming a bit by giving more opportunity for oil and moisture etc to be condensed.

no on the 4age there is no seperate vent from the sump
its all internal.

on the smallport there is an external oil drain from the head to the sump.
but you dont really want to be tapping into that for a catch can!

the problem with keeping the pcv valve is you still have fumes getting into the intake. i know a good can helps, but itll still let a lot of the vapour in, and i was aiming to reduce that to zero. and i noticed the difference immediatly.
other cars it may not be such an issue, but as i noted above 20vs seem especially sesitive to it
