Skyline brake upgrade question

Postby beeker » Sun Jul 23, 2006 5:53 pm

Are all the R32/33 skyline 4+2pot calipers the same ? I realise the rotor diameter can differ, but is the caliper the same across the models ?

ie these ones:

i believe r32 ones are cast steel, where r33 ones are alloy bodied, also z32 (300zx) have the same 4 pots these are all alloy i beleive, there is slight visual difference between r33 and z32 ones, and the steel ones are different again.

Dosen't make much difference just make sure you have 2 that match

nah r32 afaik are alloy bodied aswell. FC and i think FD rx7 4pot calipers are identical. all made by SUMITOMO, and just branded with 'mazda' or 'nissan'.

the toyota hilux also uses the same model/design but are the cast steel and alot heavier.

Mitsi GTO also have Sumitomo 4-pots, and yes, the Hilux 4-pots are really heavy!!

The key difference between calipers is the length of the mounting legs, R33 has longer legs to suit the larger diameter discs. The mounting points between the R32 and R33 are the same, even up to the GTR's so the complete brake package can be interchanged. The RX7 caliper are NOT the same and will not bolt in same as the Skyline calipers.

So the "mounting legs" is the mounting bracket ? and your not referring to any part of the physical caliper itself i assume ?

If thats the case, then I assume you can use a variety of different diameter rotors (within reason) by simply moving the caliper out further.

What about piston size and piston volume across the R32/33 ? The same ?
