why not go king springs and kyb inserts?
seem to make the fxgt handle pretty well.

its an option... im just looking around at what i can do at the moment. id like to go with coilovers purely for ease of adjustment and the fact that most of them come with a easily accessible camber adjustment.

but was also wondering about pros/cons as to using a strut out of a different chassis code all together

ive got ae101 struts, front are the same, back have different bottom bucket and tophat, but same bolts on the hub.

Need to use ae92 rear top hat, ae101 strut and ae101 spring.

late ae92 and ae101 are sealed units. You have to cut them to fit inserts.

AE92 ones are inserts as well, I have one sitting at home ready to go in, they have a hexagonal nut type thing on the top of the oil filled part of the shock, Pies, if you put coilovers in your car it will be worth 3 times what the cars worth

I would suggest just getting some KYB's and low springs combo, Why you'd want to go any lower I have no idea?
