mmm...gearbox/clutch/cables problems?

Basicly its this....

When driving the car ( AW11) Shifting the gear lever almost feels like im pushing it into and slidding it along a metal surface...

though the problem seems to be less when I rev match...any ideas short of ripping out the cables inspecting them, etc?
