wrong extractors?

Postby repowered » Tue Sep 26, 2006 7:45 pm

hey

this guys made my 4-2-1 extractors.

isnt this totaly the wrong way - like how 1 -2 pipes are joined and 3-4

shouldnt it be like 1-4 and 2-3 joining up. how much difference does this make, he reckons none and has done a silver top like this before.

im told it makes it have funny sound to it.

Primary's are in the wrong order,

and IMO the secondary's are too short.

I would say yes,

and if i was doing it i would not make the two pipes into one untill about 1 foot or so in front of where the front of the seat would be.

Each runner should be equal length too. Sounds like the guy has no idea what he is doing when it comes to designing extractors.

Even if you look on factory cast manifolds you will see numbers 1+3 and 2+4 are joined before going to the secondary or collector pipe.

Don't stress too much about primaries being equal length. Within 15 to 20% will work fine.
If there is some variation in length it helps to widen the power band a bit.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

And if your running an o2 sensor mount it where the 2-1 collector is, not just on one cylinder.

yep i know about that thankz, the ones that have been made and are on there now are downb y the 2-1 collector.

i told him i wanted them redone but he hasnt got the time at the moment so he just gave what he had made to me! said its nto worth anthing to him. so cars at the painters today getting front 1/4's and bonnet done.

dropped driveshaft off last night for shortening - get discount through work so hopefully wont cost too much.

oh ok thanks, nto sure if i should keep them and see how they go, i could wait untill he can do them again, or jsut get 4-1 which seems way easier to get premade. where do you buy 4-2-1 ae86 ones should be ok.

I think you'd find stock exhaust manifold would prove more efficient :?

Honestly, looking at the quality of the build, it looks like it would fall to pieces. I wouldn't keep them on there for long!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Apparantly the stock exh manifold with longer secondaries is very good.

the stock monifold points down at a funny angle and it point right at the steering arm. my engine sits back by the firewall so its stuffs stock manifold. i could use it but there would ahve to be this big 90' then a step down to get under firewall.

no one knows where to buy 4-2-1 (tri-Y) extractors?
