smoke normal in new turbo startup?

Postby flygt4 » Fri Sep 29, 2006 5:03 pm

hey guys.

finally got the new turbo on the car this week. now ive primed the turbo with oil etc and started it up. slight concern is that there is a fair bit of smoke coming from the manifold and turbo when its hot. is this normal when starting a new turbo for the first time?

i was quite liberal with the wd40 when removing the old turbo etc and i suspect it that may be part of it. its definately not steam, it is quite thin white smoke , that increases with revs.
having never started up a new turbo b4 i thought maybe sum1 would know.

i havent driven it yet , ive let it idle for about 10 minutes and it does seem to have decreased significantly , im just unsure as to whether this is normal.

Yeah, there will be a fair bit of oil on the turbo and assorted bits from your skin when you were handling. It'll go away within 10 or so minutes.
