Cam Cover Modification

Postby Adydas » Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:32 pm

Right in short CAN i cut and have welded the top part of my cam cover?

I have a cam cover of an NA ST206 Curren BUT its to high on the back there for blocking where the throttle body of a 3sgte goes.

IT appears hollow and pointless other than in design for its appearance and i want to know can i CUT it so it " Looks " like a 3sgte

Below are some photos to help explain

3sgte TURBO Cam cover.

My Cam Cover notice the raised back

Here is my motor with the throttle ( well intake manifold ) in place for the
throttle body so you can kinda see the obstruction.

This is where the throttle is hence why it isnt an issue over the motor.

I would say that you could cut that off & plate it in. In saying that you'd need to check & make sure that you still have clearance underneath for cams etc to rotate & clear. Though it would probably be easier/cheaper to buy a 3sgte one, else I know Fraser Cars do there own ones which are cast & unfortuantely have Fraser on them, but from memory they would offer similar or more clearance than a 3sgte one.

It wont match if i use Any other one, the seals are different i found out when buying a head set between the gen 3 and gen 2 they seem to have like 5 differnt options all with subtle changes, mine for eg has a wave down the back for the injectors but its not like it gets in the way..

Ive looked underside of it and there is a plate over it with above what looks like some form of oil catch and holes to drop oil over the cam lobes or somthing.
