short shift install

Postby repowered » Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:01 pm

hey

just about installing my short shift that has been made for my T50. fits in perfect and works good as , throws are pretty crisp but not too short.

um do I have to have a nylon thing over the ball and does it need a bit of grease or whatever in there? as whatever was previously been in there has been cleaned out.

at the moment i has no rubber/nylon thing over the ball. checked my k40 and that doesnt have anything on the ball either.

you mean the white nylon bush at the very end of the lever?
yes you need that. it sits in a little housing on the end of a selector shaft. the ball of the lever sits in it. if you dont have it itll wear the housing causing sloppy shifts.
im suprised its not sloppy already with out it as the ball is quite a bit smaller than the space in the housing

Same condition as the short shifter I got for my T50, grease is a definite when you have any metal on metal parts moving, reduces wear & friction on the parts. I tried one of the nylon bushes from Rev, turned out that the OD was too large for the selector fork ID housing. Without a bush of any description there was a bit of play there, to remove this I have been rangi and used a bit of Gardena hose, bout 3 – 5 mm and just placed that in the bottom of the selector fork housing.

If there is no play with yours it should be sweet to just go with the grease & no bush.
