Postby trdfxgt » Fri Oct 06, 2006 10:51 am

iv got a non power steer rack out of a ee80 corolla i think.... it fits my car between the wheels and the body mounts but the steering arm is to short is this normal ? can i extend it or do i need the ee80 steering arm 2 ? or is there a better way to remove the power steer from my car ?

steering arm?
I'm not sure of the names, but when I did this I had to use the non-powersteering rod thingie that sticks out of the bottom of the steering column as the two were different lengths. This involved pulling the column apart, but worked ok.

but with p/s steer you can run a better alignment set up.
with a good amount of castor and sticky tyres the steering gets heavy.
my aw11 is quite heavy and its a hell of a lot lighter in the front than an ae82! and its still on road tyres.

you can run more castor
castor is good.
more castor = heavier steering.
thats why ALL touring cars run PS. even though it adds weight and more stuff to fail.

Huh?
I measured the P/S rack at about 3 turns lock to lock, and the non P/S rack was about 4 turns lock to lock. That means you have to turn the wheel more times to get the same amount of turn on the wheels.

are you SURE its an ae82 one?
the hub carriers are the same on p/s and non p/s models
to the length of the racks will be the same
