blacktop troubles....

Postby slighty_sykotic » Fri Oct 06, 2006 10:07 pm

Hey,

Got a problem with my new blacktop....

Basically, from low rpm, when I put my foot down, even just half way, the car shudders and doesn't want to go..like its choking, then once it's past 4 thousand or so rpm it starts to pull. But it still doesnt seem like a blacktop in a aw11 should....(baring in mind though, I am used to my 4agte trueno)

It almost seems like when it comes on vvt it starts to do the shuddering.

Now, the cam timing is right, cause i've done it 10 times not (not kidding), ive even moved it a tooth back and forward to check that the marks are right. And I've checked TDC is accutly TDC on the oil pump/cam sprocket.

Is it possible that the cam can be timing with vvt in the wrong place? or would when oil pressure came up would it reset it?

Ecu is throwing two codes, oxy sensor and air temp, because both of them are unpluged at the moment. Also speed input to the ecu is not connected yet, but it isnt showing up in codes.

It kinda seems like those people that have trouble with cold blacktops, etc mine is still doing it when its warm... Any ideas?

blacktop ecu, and map sensor.

And the map feed line.. anyone got a picture of it? I've got it attached to a line that comes out on top of the fuel rail, near the throttle body.

Ok, the map sensor is in the right hole... I found a pic and it looks like its correct.

The line by the oil dipstick.... there is a vaccum line there, where does it go to?

Probably nothing to do with your problem but I'll throw it in there for goo dmeasure: A friend of mine had one that struggled to get up our driveway, did the same as the symptoms your sescribling, I took it for a blat up the road and it made a huge pop noise under full acceleration and something flew out of the back then it went really well, Turns out what came out the back was the fiberglass sound deadening from the muffler, the inside of the muffler had rusted and it was blocking the muffler outlet!!

Had a look at the diagram, every thing is ethier hooked up right, or not connected (blocked, such as the power steering one and one brake booster one).

\The only thing that doesnt have a plug on it is the blue solinod under the throttle bodies, what does that do?

there is about a 6 page thread on that here somewhere.

This problem sounds likre HT leads firing out the side.
Try another set of ht leads?

Yes but no.

Your problem has 6 pages of discussion and still no fix.
My blacktop BZT does it too.

HT lead as in spark plug leads I am suggesting may be slighty_sykotic's problem.

Ok, the coil to dizzy ht leads was $&#$%... replaced it with a new one. Still doing it, but a way better.

Chucked in new spark plugs, again, got better, but still doing it, so that leads me to believe its a weak spark.

Replaced coil with a known good one, and replaced all ht leads again with a good set from a working car.

Still doing it.

Took off dizzy cap and it LOOKS in good condtion...but I have ordered a new dizzy cap and rotor from toyota, will be here this afternoon to try.

(as a side note, recpo wants 85 or something crazy for the cap and toyota is only 40 + gst... retail...)

We will see what happens tonight.

ok,

new dizzy cap and rotor didnt help.

Got a NEW coil - dizzy lead ordered, as the one ive now got came from a running car, but it wasnt new...

So after that arrives (tomorrow morning) and that doesnt work then i'm stuck.... Took it to work (caltex) and a mechanic from the workshop took it for a drive, and agrees it seems like spark is breaking down.

So, any help? :(

The wiring to the coil alright? I had a car that had a loose wire for the 12v feed to the coil was a c**t to find as I replaced everything else first.
