Turbo size for 2JZ-GE

Postby Blkwinter » Mon Nov 13, 2006 10:07 am

Hi there guys

Manually turboing my MKIV, (NA-T) and am just wondering what an ideal size turbo will be, not looking to break any 1000hp figures, just want a bit of power down.

How much you wanna spend? If you only want to slap a turbo on and dont worry about the rest, anything big will be a waste of time.
By the time you start mucking around with manifolds, injectors, ECU, thicker headgaskets it'll be easier to just buy a 2JZ ;) Or do like that person on TM did and retrofit a 1JZGTE
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Be different, put an RB20DET in!!!!!

But seriously - more info is good, how much are you willing to spend? What power would put a smile on the dial?? GT3540Rs are usually considered a nice match to a 3litre twin cam, that'd be the way I'd go if I wanted a nice street 3litre with the potential for some crazy power.

He's looking at a t70... I thought that 2 ct12b's off the 2jzgtes would go pretty nice

might as well put a 1uz in it :D

Banishment!!!

Anyway... depends on how much power you are after really.

For around 1 -> 1.5K you can just buy a 1JZ-GTE and slap that in. Then you can sell the NA 2J and make a bit of money back for mods. 1J with a nice downpipe + zorst/ 440cc injectors/ fmic will go rather nice and would be allot cheaper than turboing an NA 2J.

A T70??

I think if he didnt decompress the motor the Ct12b's would be very punchy, but would probably run out of puff far too quickly.

CT12Bs can see you through to nearly 300rwkw and they spool hellishly fast.
T70 would be complete overkill.

Can't really make decisions or give advise without knowing budget and how much power you're after...

yeah sorry guys didnt have my morning coffee, umm i've sussed out a T70, compression is sorted its going to be around 8.5, fitting a rather large gasket, just so no piston work had to be done. Also sussed out a 6speed getrag gearbox maybe just seeing the guy tonight about it. Small things like BOV and external wastegate are sorted, just going down the lines of manafolds and ECU now. Gunna be a bit of fun over the next few months :)
