SS ST205 rallying?

Postby RedMist » Mon Nov 27, 2006 4:37 pm

Yes... yes... I know I hate the pigs...

But there isn't exactly a pre 96 4WD rally car that looks anywhere near as sexy as the GT4. The EVO and WRX are pretty ugly shopping trolleys (although quicker and lighter than the GT4)

I'm looking at a ST205 for the uprated mechanicals, but I'm a bit worried about the strength of the superstrut suspension. Will I have reliabilty or geometry issues with the 205 SS front end?

Oh, and I'm just a wee bit agressive on the stage. RevHead will be able to tell you how many goats I can hit with my Lancer and Bunderson.

If in doubt I'll attempt to pick up a either a cheap RC or a ST185 and go 205 mechanicals and a RC bonnet.

I think you will find that ST205 (1390kg) is about 70kg lighter than an ST185 or 50kg lighter than ST185-Rally. Also you will find that while STI are quicker, WRX on other hand is somewhat comparably (in stock form) to 20v with same kind of owner's ego as 20v owner's have :)

In WRC rally trim both cars weigh a hefty 1380kg. But thats not the point, in the ST205 they replaced the SS with a McPherson strut because they couldnt get the SS to work.

If weight was the issue then I'd be sticking with the original plan.... EVO 3 at 1190kg.
