Knock Sensor?

Postby no_8wire » Wed Dec 06, 2006 10:27 pm

I have this plug on my 7afe block that is not on my 4age block. It is on the intake side under the intake manifold.
It is the pink plug that you can see in this photo.
Any ideas on what it is?

Std 2JZ knock sensors seem to work pretty good with a knock link. been running one on my surf for the past 6 months

yeah toyota knock sensors are a bit of a odd bunch
there all differnt in sensitivity

a lot of people use bosh ones .i can say they are quite good as this is what i use as well
never tried a 2jz one
but then ive never had one

I run two sensors on my car.

The std 20V toyota one which is very similar to the 2JZ one's
runs the knocklink display and also is inout to the linkplus,
(although no knock control is used)
and the display works very well.

I also run a bosch type one which i connect to the knockblock and headphones for when i am tuning or rechecking for detonation.

They both work, but have very different outputs and you need to adjust whatever you connect it to accordingly.

I was talking to someone from this forum who does link tunes and he was saying something about the output not being very linear and hard to determine knock from engine noise.

So what would be better for doing a 'home tune' on a 4age?
Knocklink? knockblock? standard sensor? bosch sensor?
4age doesnt have a timing chain so shouldnt be as much background noise as some engines.

Knocklink? Tried that.
knockblock? Tries that too.
standard sensor? And one of them.
bosch sensor? Even tried that.

For tuning I use a Bosch sensor and a a Knockblock with a set of headphones.

For day to day running in the car I use a toyota sensor and the Knocklink display. By running the car enough you will get to tell what is normal and what is not.

We ran a 2JZ knock sensor and a knocklink display on our first AE101 2JZ Levin and when it ran a bearing Chris said that the knock link had been going off the scale for the last few laps, so thay must pick up the beginning of run bearings too.
