Biggest tires for possible for AE92?

Postby Gavin » Tue Dec 12, 2006 6:51 am

I need to know, what are the biggest tires you guys are using on your AE92s? The wheels I will be putting them on are 15/6.5 with a 32mm offset. I would like to run 215/50, 205/55, or something in that area. I could add up to a 5mm spacer if needed. Would it be possible (or desired) to use tires that size? Right now I am at stock ride height but will be lowering it about 2.5 cm all arround with Eibach springs soon.

Just listing what big wheel/tire combinations you guys are using would be a big help.

Thanks a lot!

With the right offset you can get 215s in easy enough. Dont know what offset my old mags were but 215/35/R18s fitted under with it lowered and without lipping the guards, no rubbing

ae92 fxgt:

205/50/15 on 35+ offset is okay
195/55/15 on 35 or 40 offset is okay
205/50/15 on 40+ offset rub in the rear on the struts

edit: both of the rim sets i tried were 7" rims

For a 6.5" rim I would recommend 195/55/15s.

I have 205/50/15s on 6.5" rims on my levin and I'm getting sick of the little bit of slop in my wheels. The problem would be alot worse with 215's.

Thats good news. Those wheels would have an overall diameter of about 60.6 cm, which is the same as 205/55/15s would give me, so those must be fine. If you could remember the offset that would be a big help.

I wont go for the 215s because of the sloppiness-factor that punter pointed out. There is still the question of offset, but I'll get the tires and order a spacer as needed.

The reason I want the larger overall-diameter is because I will be using an adaptor to run these same wheels on my 280z, with some nice sticky rubber. The 280z can fit real big diameter wheels. I am currently using 215/50/15s (smaller, S130 ZX Turbo-spec) and although I like what they do to my gearing I wouldnt mind them being slightly bigger, definitely couldnt go any smaller.

Thanks a lot guys!

BTW I'll be putting those tires on these bad-boys (Super Advans).
I got them for a real good price because of their condition, center caps included, and will be restoring them.

Ewwwww... Tri-Spokes.

Nah, sounds like you have it sorted.

factory offset is +38 so you need somewhere around +40 for 6.5" rims.

Ha I know I didnt used to like them either but after seeing them on so many sick cars out of Japan they grew on me.

I'm a little confused about that second part. So your saying I would want a higher offset for wider wheels? But that would make them even less likely to fit..

Ahh.. yes my mistake. I was thinking more for the looks. (not sticking out from the car) But I forgot that ae92's don't have much room in the rear, my wheels rub on the rear struts in my mates ae92, but aren't even close on my ae101.

Oh IC yes that may be a problem. Whatever I think fender flares on a Rolla wagon would look pretty sweet.

Nah they'll be fine, they aren't actually that wide anyway.

if thats the case, i may have to do a conversion on the rear of my ae92.
you reckon its the struts or the rear hubs that make it different??

Can't say I actually looked at what caused it, but it rubbed on the shock body.
