Modifying Starlet hubs

Postby Bullitt » Wed Dec 27, 2006 3:06 pm

Im trying to fit new wheels to my gfs Starlet Glanza (Non turbo). However the wheels Ive got which are 15" SSR Type Xs with the correct PCD and offset wont fit the car.

The centre piece of the hub that sticks out is about 2mm in diameter too wide to fit into the centre of the wheels. This is more than I want to grind away from the wheels but what are my options for modifying the hubs.

Is there anything wrong with either taking off that piece of the hub or putting it in a lathe and reducing it in size abit.

See picture for explanation

why dont you want to take it off the wheel?
IMO that would be easier, seeing as they're already off the car...

Just checking and the stilettos that are on there now have had the front wheels carved out to fit (backs dont need it so wont fit on front).

I just wary of weakening the wheel too much, plus theyve just been powdercoated and I dont want to have to get them redone

I would imagine that would be sweet as to lathe down to nothing if wanted, its only for locating a wheel anyway isnt it?

lathing a mag wheel tho 8O not sure i'd be going down that road!

only a 10 minute job to get the hubs off, so i'd go for that option

good luck Paul :)

those bits arent spose to be there anyway. looks like an adaptor ring from the wheels you have taken off is stuck on there. that part of the hub should be 55mm.
should be able to bash it off

should look like this (brakes in pic not stock)

Thanks very much. Wheels are now fitted. That saved me alot of (further) unnecessary mucking around

Car is pretty dirty but heres some before and after shots

Im sure a few people here wont agree with the change but the Stilettos were far too big for such a small car IMO
