How to remove power steering belt on 4efte ?

Postby Old Wolf » Fri Jan 05, 2007 7:41 pm

My PS/AC belt is hosed and I want to remove it and put a new one on, but I can't figure out how.

The PS pump looks like it is supposed to pivot on a hinge but I have loosened the hinge bolt and wound down the up/down bolt that's supposed to set its angle, but it won't budge. What am I missing?

EP91 starlet, 4efte engine, so I can't actually see what I'm doing because the turbo air intake curls right around the PS pump.

(Also, can I download or buy the FSM anywhere?)

Been a while since I did an ep91 but pretty sure its the same as ep92. There are 3 bolts on the power steer pump, the easiest one & I'm sure it's the biggest one(17mm???) is the one from the power steer pump onto the engine itself, then there are 2 bolts on the pump that bolt to a small steel bracket on the front of the power steer pump(14mm??) you don't need to undo these bolts, but you do need to undo the bolt(12mm???) on the bottom of this bracket as otherwise it won't move, I usually get to this bolt from underneath from memory & it's a bit of a pain as it's right next to the chassis rail. Once you undo that top & bottom bolt you should be able to adjust the tension on belt & slacken it right off & then you should be able to take the belt off & replace it with a new one, tighten it up using the adjuster bolt & then lock up the bolts at both the top/bottom.Hope this helps.

Ok, I figured it out. There are two more bolts that are part of the adjustment assembly (one you have to access through the pulley, and one is just under the pulley and you need a short socket ot get it). Then you can pivot the pump and it rotates on all 3 bolts. Weird design..
