What do you think of this?

Postby ollieboy » Sun Jan 14, 2007 10:47 pm

Earlier in the year I blew a head gasket and the head was a bit rooted so I got some work done on it. Due to the work I had to run 95 octane at the least but someone borrowed my car and filled it up with shell 91. I never fill up at Shell usually.

The engine doesn't pink so I'm driving it with the 91 but it's incredibly gutless and the spark plugs fouled in less than a day, I only gave the car a tune up a week ago.

Do you think its gutless due to the fuel, fuel quality or something else?

Its got me slightly worried but I can't put new gas in yet because its a full tank and theres no drain on the bottom of the tank to get the gas out.

Will have a look tomorrow now I know what to look for. Now you mention it, filter is pretty old and probably could do with a change anyway. I just used the listed NGK plug when I changed them so unsure.

they would have needed to take a massive amount off the head to bump the compression up enough to require a higher octane.

check fuel delivery

Yeah it was only a wee bit, just the buckled area but the cylinder head repairer said run 95 just in case.

Edit: He wasn't too sure about Toyota engines but I looked in the manual for 2t and it said minimum octane 89 so I think he worked out it should be ok for 91 but just in case.

The person I leant it to is my 50 year old mother who works for the NZ police, I don't think she "thrashed the tits off it." :)
