Installing a pod filter to 1991 celica

Postby Dean GT-R » Mon Jan 15, 2007 1:17 pm

I have just bought a pod filter for my GTR and i had a look at how i could install it and found that there is air flow meter wiring on the existing filter box. i have done some research and found that the car will not operate with this disconnected but i can not think of how i can attach the pod filter with this still connected. can anyone out there help me out on this..?

Its not going to be an airflow meter if its in the air filter housing... do you know what it is?

It might be just a temp sensor in which case you might be able to fabricate a small section of tubing that incorporates it... Still best to find out exactly what it is before you mess with it :D

Gen 2 3SGEs use a MAP sensor instead of an AFM, so wont be that. Gen 1's all run AFM, while only the gen 2 GTE runs one.

NA st182s arnt AFM? seriously? IF it has an AFM you can buy an adapter to fit on it to fit the filter to, if it is map you can shove the filter anywhere from the TB its self to a pipe located anywhere you want.

ill try explain what i can see...: there is a large rubber tube about 70mm in diameter coming off the block.. there is a small black box coming off the tube with a few things written on the top of it. at the end of the tube is a bigger box which is the air filter unit which has two wires coming off the back of it that go into a tube of multiple wires from various areas of the engine.

Air temp sensor.

Just move it into the intake pipe somewhere.

Ok cheers guys.. im not quite sure as to what MAP means though. Would it work fine if i just put the pod filter straight on the pipe where the original air filter is. should i leave the existing pipe that opens to the front grill there to bring cold air from outside to the opening of the pod filter?

Try to get as much cold air as you can to it...

or shield/box it effectively to lessen the amount of hot air sucked in from the engine bay. hot air = crapper fuel/air charge = crapper performance

You can run afeed up the passenger side fender , after removing the intake resonator box

A 2" pipe ducted from the front will help feed cooler air toward your pod , and if its boxed , it will help out quite a bit..
