Removing the cat converter in a GTT Caldina

Postby Josh64 » Mon Jan 15, 2007 7:25 pm

Just wondering what is involved in removing the Cat converter in my GTT, I heard there will be increased fuel efficiency and horsepower but have been told by a muffler guy that its a huge job and takes ages...
If anyone could help that would be great - Cheers!

depends if its an ECU sensoured 1 or just a cat if its option number 2 its as simple as cutting it out & putting pipe in its way

main gain will be better breathing so more power witch in turn will make u need less push so probley more economal

Not that hard if your removing it completely, a lil harder, and more hazardous o your health if you are gutting it and putting it back on.

In a GTT it isn't too hard.

We did it with a mates' Caldina. Take it out, cut it open and gut it then weld it back up and put back in. Could feel an instant change in throttle response and acceleration...

You can do them without welding if you have enough time,

About an hour with a drill, chisel and a hammer and you can gut them without damaging them. I have done about 3 this way now.
Just watch out for the chicken wire type stuff round the outside of the cat material.

They're actually worth pretty good money to scrap metal dealers. Platinum catalysts and all that.
