1jz vs 2jz questions.

Postby Pies » Tue Jan 16, 2007 6:51 pm

first question. ive already asked a couple of people but just want to make absolute certain.
1jzge, 1jzgte, 2jzge, 2jzgte all have interchangeableeng mounts?
eg: 1jzgte powered soarer. 1jzge, 2jzge and 2jzgte will all bolt on to factory mounts right?

second question
1j* and 2j* have the same gearbox pattern?
eg, 1j* bellhousings are all the same as 2j* bellhousings?

thank you

Simple answer YES.

BEFORE "-":
the letters indicate the engine family, for example in 18R-G the engine family is R, in 2JZ-GTE the family is JZ. The number(s) at the beginning is the number of a certain bottom end version (block, bore, stroke). The larger the number, the newer the bottom end version. It may seem like the larger the number, the larger the displacement but this is not always true.

Example 1S is the first of this engine type from 82 rwd Carina rwd then 1S Fwd 3SF fwd etc until GT4 Celica ST185's was same external mounting points

"J" Family engine block external mounting points like bellhousing engine mount locations are same from JZA70 MK3 Supra up to current VVTI Single turbo in Chasers

JZGTE "rocker covers" are taller than the JZGE ones.
From what I can work out the bolt patterns on VVTi JZ blocks are different from non VVti blocks.

also 25mm difference in block height, so the head sits bout an inch higher between 1j and 2j, we were going to have this issue with building my 1.5jz, then gave up and sold the block to dad, i'll just rev the bitch instead

the fallen303 - your car went pretty well at Taupo!
How is your 4 cylinder project going?

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

the 4cyl is, um, well i did some bolts up the other day!! missing vacumn lines and clutch slave cylinder, dizzy lead to the coil, few other small things, but yeah, gonna hold me up a bit with no money to get them :( it's getting there though. needs to get there quicker as my other daily's been sold so i'm driving the jz to work and back :?
