1994 3sgte into 1990 mr2

Postby MR2SIK » Thu Jan 18, 2007 6:33 pm

Ive just aquired a 1994 3sgte to replace my bung gen2 3s.
Has anyone here done anything similar? It came with the gen3 ecu and loom which has been cut from the fuse box.
Original plan was to get my link wired up straight away, but I am now unable to get enough time off work to go to chch to get it tuned etc so was gonna run it with the standard ecu until such a time i can get to chch.
What is on my mind the most is the differences in wiring of the two models, is this a major or am I worrying about nothing?

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

I'm doing it right now, although I have the PowerFC which will simplify things a bit.

You'll need to Run the ECU definitely, bestest to get a full loom if you don't want any headaches, or else it's going to be cut and crimp time to frankenstein the 2 looms together.

Ofcourse, if you want it just to run, you can run full gen 2 jetronics, with 440cc inj from your gen 2.

glhf.

Well I almost did it back in 2002, but the cost was way too high ($3k for a celica Gen 3 with a cut loom and no turbo)......

End up rebuilding and got my ass raped.

wldfag?

haha only went gen3 way as after 6 months of looking the only things I came across were busted gen2s or incomplete blocks. And Nelson isnt exactly busting at the seams with import performance orientated workshops.

I did this conversion about 10 years ago , but I had a complete donor car which made the job easier.

If you're using the standard ECU and Gen III loom then you'll need the Gen III ignitor and coil as well as the Gen III MAP sensor. Most engines that I've seen include the MAP sensor but not the ignitor and coil, guess it's just too hard to take them of the firewall :(

Bestest for him to swap in the 440cc injectors and run L-Jetronic.

Or wire in his Link.
