2E and 4E-FE piston question

Postby Kender » Fri Feb 16, 2007 3:19 pm

Hi all

I have an EE90 Corolla with a 2E engine and I hate carbies. I'm toying with the idea of taking the head and all associated EFI components off a 4E-FE and fitting it onto the 2E block. Does anyone know of any obvious problems I may encounter doing this? eg valve cutouts in the pistons, head bolts in different places

I'm trying to keep the engine size under 1300cc (for motorsport use), hence the reason I'm not just dropping in the complete 4E-FE engine.

Cheers

compression will be way too low. the 16v head has more chamber area than the 12v head. of course the 12v motor has more dish in the pistons to compensate. so you'l need custom pistons for it to work anygood. else it would probably make less power than the 2e

you could cheat and bore the 2e block, then throw a set of 4efe pistons in there. that way your engine numbers would still match :D

Thanks guys.

Looks like I was right to worry about the pistons. Time to retreat and consider my options

Just chuck in a 2E injected engine. They should be as common as horse poo down there.

If you call round to Kelfords, I asked them to regrind a rally camshaft for me in 1994. They might have just about finished it by now and you're welcome to it.

These things take some work to get them perculating. They need at least 13 to 1 compression. If you find yourself a flat top piston with the correct diameter & deck height (I think a 1300/1400 Mirage was close), machine a flat recess about 3mm deep and 3mm in from the outer circumference you'll have a TRD shape piston.
Depending on how much you shave off the head you may need a small cutout for the inlet valve.
