Alternator wiring

Hi guys,

My alternator isn't charging the car. I suspect this is because the IG pin on the plug that connects to the alternator is outputting 0v.

Can I just solder the IG pin on the plug to a +'ve feed that runs whenever the key is turned to on? (such as the fan in the side of my engine bay)

yeh as long as that fan has an ignition feed on it itll be fine an dandy, why doesnt it have an ignition feed on it? blown fuse, broken wire?

from memory the the 2 feeds are fused at 7.5A & 15A so my gess is that you need a bit of current so maby not im gessing it will need a relay

Probably a rangi wiring loom. I pulled the engine out, put a LSD box on it and then stuck it back in. It's possible I might have damaged the loom or it was loose to start with.

blacktop 20v in aw11.

No it will hardly draw any current at all.
It's only there to trigger the electronic circuit in the regulator.
I doubt it would even draw an amp or two.

Does your alternator warning light on the dash work? if its not going, check thats the bulb in the guage cluster is not blown, this can cause that same fault. As you if youve accidentally squashed the loom you will need to trace it back from the alt. loom to be sure.

Check if youve got power to your alt. warning light, just remove the bulb and use a testlight on the bulbholders contacts, swithcing on the ignition. that will tell you if its a power supply problem in the wiring up to, or after the guage cluster. no feed --> check the fuses, inside, under the hood, in the bood, under the seat where ever! :twisted:

If there is no power on th IG wire of the alternator it will not earth out the light.
So if the bulb does not go,
the bulb circuit can still be ok.

matt i think he`s more working on the old british idear were the power is supplyed to one side of the light & the other side is supplyed to the reg the reg will draw power thro the light when it is on & use that for a sensour wire & ground the wire when it isent useing it witch turn`s the light on but with this system if the light goes out the aultnator will stop working dew to it will be getting no ING signal
