AE85/6 Trueno lights not going down

Postby limbo » Thu Feb 22, 2007 9:16 pm

Hey, i have just spent 5 days trying to get my lights to go down, i have pulled every relay out and manually tested it as per the repair manual and they all seem to work, even the impossible to get to one above the steering column, i have tested every fues not just looked at them, and yet my $@@#$!@#$%! lights wont go down!

If i manually wind them down and switch the lights on they pop up like normal, but then when i turn them off they stay up.

This is killing me! please help or distract me with pictures of ladies

I cant find the plugs for the motors, the wires just dissapear into the loom,

I kept messing about with it and if i manually wind the one light down, then switch the lights off the other light will go down. it doesnt matter which light i do it to. and if i turn it back on both go up, but then neither will come back down when i turn the lights off.

I am pretty sure its not the switch as it works fine if i manually wind one head light down first.

They don't have a stork, they have a sort of round twist switch.

I had the same problem, turned out to be a bad connection in the switch on the dash, probably due to being 24yrs old  Big pain to pull apart too, test it by giving it a bang with your fist or something... best solution to most mechanical problems!

Before i go pulling apart my dash, would your lights turn off at all? i think my switch is working as the lights light up and turn off like they should and they retract when i use the switch if i manually wind one light down first.

How do you get the switch out of the dash btw?

Mine was a combination of staying up but lights off and also staying down and off.

Sounds like yours is different, maybe something obstructing the light mechanism from going down?

You just need to start removing panels until you can get to it. Just get a screw driver and go at it.

I have adjusted the stoppers with no joy, i have tested the switch with no joy. which means it is probably the retractor controller box that is causeing all the trouble. Does anyone have a spare one? or would be willing to try my controller in their car and is in auckland?

Often the retractor control relay on passenger side behind headlightish area. They blow one side of them when the get too wet. I think I saved one for that reason, Ill have look in morning.
