Brake upgrade information from one of our sponsors

Postby Wildcard » Tue Apr 01, 2003 4:25 pm

Steve from Toyspeed sponsor Masterpart [0800brakes] has sent
me an interesting document covering brake upgrades on road / race
cars, as well as some interesting information on common brake
upgrade misconceptions. Rather than being a straight marketing
document this actually is a very useful guide to those of us
considering brake upgrades.

There is even a price guide - remember you can expect a ~30%
discount for being a Toyspeed member.

You can find the document here:

it was really good to have all those rumours confirmed from a propper brake company. as there have been so many people just making stuff up..

so.... go the slotted rotors, the DOT4 race fluid, and some racing pads!

great article, steve is a good dude and very knowledgable, as you will find out if you ever go in and have a chat with him (not only that but he talks for hours). i might add, however, that pretty much everyone gets 30% off at masterpart, which is great for people who don't want to mention an association with toyspeed

I just went and got a set of custom mintex race pads from these guys and found that they were very friendly and helpfull, and after taking my car for a good thrash I have decided that their product is wicked :D

I would highly recomend them to anyone looking for a good deal on brakes which are in a league of their own compared to repco and stuff.

fast product review:

AE92 GT Corolla
Mintex 1166 pads all around
Standard (new) rotors all around
New race brake fluid.

Cold brake response similar to Metal King pads, so not marvelous, but still "safe" for road use in my opinion.

Get even a little bit of warmth into them (one 50 kmh stop for example), and they bite like a doberman on a mailman.

8 laps of Manfeild doing the latest and hardest braking that the tires would deal with and they still hauled up without any fade or reduction in performance. Seriously impressed.

Cheers for the info. Good to see some common sense, and not just a bunch of tossers saying "you need a $3000 brake set-up or you'll die". 8)
