Fuel Gauge.

Postby RedMist » Sat Mar 17, 2007 7:56 am

Fuel gauge in one of my ST205's doesnt work. Although this is more than likely the dodgy wiring on this car. I wondered what typically failed on fuel gauges? are they fused? How do I check the sender?
The answer is Helmholtz!

To check the sender you need to measure the resistance across it, but you can only do it out of the tank so you can move it, to see if the resistance changes.

If you test the resistance across it while it's in the tank, you can see if the curcit is closed or not.

Normally the contact strip on them breaks, but toyota ones aren't really known for broken fuel senders, just mazda 323s.
