on my ae92 afm gze

Image

line up top goes to a/c valve
line on LHS goes to blue vsv
line on RHS goes to pipe inbetween s/c and t/b

ive got no a/c and no blue vsv(abv mod)

but i was just wondering what that little cyclinder thingy was?

i removed it and plugged up related lines and the car idled fine :D but todaqy was back to its bs.

it will hunt for a few seconds(10 or so) then stall or come very close to it.
could this be the afm?

looks similar to the one-way valve on the bluetop 4age throttle bodies, can't remember exactly what its for, something to do with the idle and starting IIRC.

gee i'm helpful :lol:

actually, just rememberd i posted this ages ago...this is what i'm talking about.
edit - doesn't have the descriptions i thought it did, should've had #8 on the bottom too.

8. Vacuum operated valve for increasing the idle speed when starting. Cracks the throttle open, once engine is running and has manifold vacuum the idle speed drops to normal.

cheers, so it does have a effect on idle.

hmm, is it cold start related?

anybody? can a bung afm effect idle? as in a hunting idle?

not too familiar with AFM engines, but yes im pretty sure a faulty AFM can cause that. try lowering the revs every way possible, adjust idle screw as low as possible, block off any vacuum/bypass pipes in the throttle body, see if it evens the idle out.

yes a broken AFM will stuff up the idle, it will "hunt" as you said. revs will go up and down.

AFM cars are sensitive to vacume leaks, you will have the same sympoms but it shouldnt come close to stalling unless its a BIG leak. ie rendering your O2 sensor pretty much useless.

If you AFM is broken your car will be running rich, wasting your money and loosing power and as you said could even flood the engine at idle and stall it.


and im pretty sure that little thing is a one way valve

i havent drove the car yet so icouldnt tell you about no power/economy.

iive put blacktop exhaust on it,

if the o2 sensor is crap could that be my problem?

O2 sensour dousent read at idle its something like 10-45% throttle so only when cruseing really

that valve is a type of 1 way valve that lets vacume thro for a short while like 40 seconds ect to increase idel while starting but putting a bit of throttle on well the 1 in the pick on the throttle body is any way

what do your plugs look like
The faster you go the quicker you get there
