altezza 3SGE head gasket onto 3SGTE

Postby strx7 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 6:30 pm

I read somewhere about using an altezza 3SGE head gasket (multi layer steel) on 3SGTE's cause they are thicker than the standard 3SGTE one, I cant find where i read it, because i just need to confirm it before I order one.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Shane

gen3 ones ( st205 or series 3 mr2 ) are multi layer steel and can be used on a gen 2 ( st185 gt4 or earlt sw20 turbo ) without hassle ..

TRD ones also

my engine is a ST215 GT-T engine, but its far from normal, and a slightly thicker than std headgasket wouldn't go a-stray hehe

The gaskets between the FWD and RWD beams engines are different.

It's quite clever.

If you use the FWD gasket, it opens and closes different water galleries, making the water outlet at the back of the head. If you use the RWD one, it puts the water outlet at the front of the head, in the position where the Celica/caldina alternator bolts on to. (I always wondered why it looked like a water gallery there in the block... Because it is one!)

If the gasket does indeed match the previous gen 3SGTE engines, then you'd be better off getting a FWD beams head gasket, if you're using it in a transverse setup.
