How to: Digital speedo signal, to analogue dash?

Postby RomanV » Sun Apr 01, 2007 9:18 pm

Okay, well I want to keep my standard dash unit, which runs a speedo cable... but I've got an 'electric' speedo drive for the gearbox.

What's the best way to get it working? Use an electric motor to spin the back of the speedo drive where the cable goes, using the signal from the gbox as a reference via some circuitry?

Or is there any easier way? :)

Any advice/etc appreciated!

just use the mechanical unit instead of electronic sensor. You need to find one from same series gearbox.
Unless you are using an oddball gearbox, it will be easy to find right sender.
Are you using altezza gearbox?

Yep, altezza six speed, which IIRC is made by 'aisn' as opposed to toyota.

I doubt that it comes with a mechanical sender though?

What do you think the odds are of finding one that would fit. Not great I'd imagine.

you can actually modify electronic one into mechanical, with some machining/drilling and borrowing bits from a donor mechanical unit.

Hi Dave,
There are lots of toyotas with electronic speedos (togs, togs, togs, undies).
I (now) have another spare AA60 speedo with revcounter. I'm sure that it is possible to put an electronic speedo into the AA60 dash... might be a bit fiddly but entirely possible. I've done (sort of) similar stuff with mixing and matching dash parts in the past.

Look here... I can see an altezza radiator in the pichttp://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo ... 152867.htm

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
