someone to do engine conversion

Postby FoNX » Mon Apr 02, 2007 4:26 pm

In case you haven't noticed, I am kind of retarded when it comes to the actual mechanics of working on cars. I figure the best way to put a 4agze (which I have just come across) into my starlet is to pay someone to do it for me. What kind of price should I expect? Can anyone recommend someone in the South Island who is the best balance of quality and price?

Appologies if this annoys or is in the wrong subforum guys.

price would be entirely dependant on whether you have all the parts (RWD gearbox, ECU etc) required for the engine conversion, and the extra parts needed (brakes etc) to satisfy the cert guy.
where in the south island are you??

I am in Blenheim, and would only have the engine and a gearbox, as the ecu from the original car is fwd, so not applicable right?

ps thanks for the quick reply!

im sure you can still use the ecu from the original car, you would probably need to modify the loom to fit though

Ecu is most deffinitely applicable, just need loom modified to suit.

gather all parts nessacary and it will be much cheaper. wouldn't dare give you a estimate on how much though

loom may not need to be modified actually, ive got a ke70 with a fwd redtop loom and it fits through the firewall quite easily. ive got an ae86 [rwd] loom in my ke35 and ive got about 3ft of loom sitting under the dash

Thanks for all the replies guys. It should be noted that at the moment it is just pie in the sky stuff - I just want to plan out where I am headed, get an idea of cost and time for all my options and head from there.

So that being said, any dollar figures floated out would not be taken as written in stone or anything, I just want a general goal to aim for.

Also, with the loom, is the only reason for changing/cutting etc to reduce the length or to fit it through the firewall? I would have thought that fwd looms were incompatible with rwd...

Thanks

if you believe that fwd and rwd looms are incompatible how u feel about putting a fwd engine into rwd :D

the looms are easily fitted, not much to make it work, just strip out the wires you dont need or just put it in anyway and hide it
