N14 pulsar GTI. Jamex springs fitted and captive. Driving in a straight line is fine however turning gives a clunking like sound as if the spring is moving in the sadle. Any advice, bloody annoying :? Sorry for the non-Toyota related question

Kind of need to sort the problem out tonight. Hopefully not too much of a major, everything else is fine.

Have you got the rubber inserts still there? Sounds like the spring hasn't seated properly. Hard to say with out seeing it though.

The rubber on the lower and upper spring saddles are there were the springs sits on. Just had a look then and yeah the spring is moving in the lower sadle :? What else would be causing this you reckon?

Your top seat probably isn't sitting on the strut properly. But it's hard to say, I'd just pull it down and reassemble it. It could also be the new springs are a bit different on the ends, eg standard might be 5.4 coils and your new ones might be 5.7 or some thing. Causing them to move about.

Yeah these particular springs dropped the car a lot lower than I wanted really :? We fitted the springs at work as we have compressed air and all the right gear so will be a little bit harder doing it at my house lol. Prehaps the top nut needs to wound in a bit more?

if you have spring compressers, just compress them still on the car if you have the space and move them aroung a bit see if they sit a bit better. you can check the top bearing and nut for play while your at it.

OMG dismantled the strut, put it back together again and the spring still keeps turning despite sitting in correctly. One thing I noticed is that the spring is bloody soft, I can literally compress the springs with my hands, that cant be right can it? When I drove it, it was pretty bouncy as if it had cut springs. WTF? :?

Maybe I should just fit the standard ones, got a trip to Rotarua this weekend and don't exactly want to be driving down with a rice bounce going on

The springs are soft to stay captive at full extension, they should be ok once loaded though. I'd fit the standys for the trip to be safe untill you have a better look on a hoist or some thing.. :?

Oh, you haven't got the top seat out by 180 degrees have you?

You can compress the springs with your hands when they are fitted :? It honestly feels like your driving with standard cut springs which is kind of gay. Yeah guess it will be back on the hoist tomorrow and standards back in, what a waste of time/money

Springs round the wrong way, yes stupid of me. Thought they were supposed to have arrows pointing the correct direct of installing. Also didn't realise that would cause them to move about as they were still captive.
