Silvertop 20v Mods

Postby MINTFX » Tue Apr 10, 2007 5:22 pm

Ive searched on these forums but cant seem to find much information (I hate how it searches and brings up almost every thread)

Current mods:

Battery in Boot, Cold air box up front.
Cat back exhaust

The rest is pretty much standard. Im not really looking at doing anything serious, but what is something thatll give me a little bit more go? Maybe up to $500. If there are any other threads like this would someone please kindly point me to them :D

Do you actually get an increase in power from an increase in silvertop compression? I would have thought the only thing you did would have been to detonate it to hell... or have to wind back the timing.
The answer is Helmholtz!

I'd be on the lookout for a sard or mines plug and play ecu, even if you move onto something more serious (link etc) those ecus seem to hold good value.

Take everything out that you don't need, that way it'l have way more go, stop faster and corner better as well. Also if you decide to put everything that you pull out back in it later it's really easy to get everything super clean :)
101 facelift standard = 1060kg's
101 facelift loudtoy style weight reduction = 906kg's

Now thats a noticeable difference when you are driving :) and good for about 2 10ths in a straight line and 2 seconds around taupo old track :)

just did the Blacktop extractors on my Silvertop. The new ones have FGK on them, asuming brand but got no info on them. got from local wreakers.

Anyway, went to meremere.

Fastest before mod was 16.167 sec @ 139km/h.
Fastest at end of day was 15.881 @ 89mp/h so think its 146km/h (bastards changed timing system!!) all day (even at slowest of 17 sec, screwed up launch twice) still managed 88Mph.

FWIF Final speed on 1/4 mile is a measue of horsepower.
Oh and traveled up from taranaki (at pace) 3min 38 over Mt messenger...
raced and got back to te kuiti. 529km on 46L of gas.

Economy with preformance increase, so double bonus.

ensure u have facelift ITBs.
SARD or aftermarket ecu
run on the best fuel you can
fit catch can that to BOTH rocker cover pipes, do not use feed back system.
check leads (specificly the coil lead)
as stated 2-1 section
fit k&n panel to stock airbox
ducting to stock airbox
blacktop extractors

How much is an aftermarket ecu?

I might invest in that
Ive already spent the money on making the cold air pipes(plus it sounds awesome)

Hes talking about the facelift TB manifold.. not the TB's themselves. The facelift manifold is more of a teardrop shape rather than the oval and slot design of the pre facelift manifold.
There is a groupbuy on Links... or there was... in the parts buy sell section.
Spent the money on cold air pipes? You havent removed the stock airbox have you?? BiIiiig no no. You will get considerably less power by doing so. Unless you make up a custom airbox and straight pipes, but then you'll probably be well and truly through the firewall in order to get the Helmholtz frequencies correct.
Revhead is talking about a cold air box in order to feed cool air into a pod filter.

Ahok. I meant ive gotten rid of the rubber pipes and pipe straight aluminium ones in place (looks nicer aswell). I plan on isolating the pod filer with a cold air box i will make from heat shield and make sure it has plenty of air getting to it. I did a quick search and someone on a corolla forum said the a Sard ECU gives a 12% hp increase.
