whats the better buy?

hey all

im after a old ke with a bigger engine and ive found a few different options, i dont want too much of a gas guzzler unless its gona be pretty dam quick. heres the options

ke30 with a 18r-geu with twin solex sidedrafts and new ramflo filters
recent cylinder head rebuild
w57 gearbox
ae86 diff and discs (locked)
elec fuel pump
no cert tho

another ke30 with a redtop tvis 4age
and a t50, recent recondtion
certed

would it be worth getting the one with the 18r-geu just for the w57 and diff and replace it with something more fuel friendly?

any input appreciated

the 4age one is better IMO. probally the same speed or faster, as the 18r's are big OLD heavy motors. and fairly good on gas

just looked at the stats and both engines put out roughly the same power although the 18r-geu has twin sidies which should make it a bit faster?

are there any other engines that share the same mounts as a 18r?

for what its worth, my 4age bluetop ke35 is pretty good on gas, definitely not over the top.

18r-geu was 127nm@4400

but with the weight difference the 4age should be faster!?! also the fact that it is also already certified is a big plus. and there are far more options to get more power out of a 4age compared to an 18r.

Go for the 4AGE for sure man. Injection is the way to go.

the one with the 18r looks better and i think is better value for the money, how hard would it be to convert this car to 4age (and can you get a bellhousing to suit a w box and 'a' engine?) as it already has a strong box and better diff and brakes for a turbo conversion.

yep, from niteparts in exchange for around $800. there are several alternatives though, cutting up and mixing/matching different bellhousings, or making up an adaptor plate so a t50/4age bellhousing will work. ive been on the lookout for a cheaper alternative that works just aswell so ill let you know if i find anything

but if your just going to end up chucking the 18r out and putting a 4age in then it will end up costing more. the diff is locked which is not a good idea if your using it for everyday street use.

Yeah man, locked diff are ghey!!!
Get the 4AGE and turbo that. It's a Redtop TVIS, so has the bigger bottom end and 20mm pins. So, if you do turbo, you can decide to go with 4AGZE pistons down the track.

Then keep an eye out for another gearbox or diff or whatever else you're wanting.
