AE101 4A-GZE Air Intake Options

Postby DECEVR » Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:00 pm

Greetings,

Just aquired a new 1991 Levin GTZ-R i think it says on the side of it...

Anyway, Previous owner did some interesting modifications, including a blowoff valve he could never make work... funny that (I didnt bother explaining it, he didnt look like he'd understand)

So on a side note, if anyone wants a Type-1 Bov (Racepro?) its up for grabs.

Secondly, hes put a Pod Filter on it, its in the worst place i can imagine, not only is it getting lovley hot air from the engine, its also right behind the radiator fan so it gets blasted with hot air while moving!
Due to that, boxing may not be the best option, unless i shift the battery, and relocate the filter to behind the light as in 'normal' cars.

But before i start mucking about, what is generally done in this area? and can i perhaps have some pics of what others have done, or suggest. I have a pulley kit otw and plan on sorting this and then beefing up the fueling with some MR2 injectors and a larger fuel pump (i figure a good search will give me all the info i need on this)

I haven't done yet, but I plan to make an air box to just fit over a pod and duct air to it form the wheel arch.

Looked into the ducting recently and I can make a flexable bit of 3" pipng go form the wheel arch to just under where the POD sits.

So then I will just seal the surround ing hot off as best I can, and that'll do me.

I personally wouldnt worry about a bigger pump, a stock pump and injectors will be ok upto 14 psi. You have boost cut at 15psi anyway with ae101 ecus so its pointless really. Bigger injectors will just make it run rich if running them with a stock e.c.u.

Apart from a bigger pulley you are better spending the money on a water2air setup which would be a far better gain in my opinion, and put the stock airbox back in with a k&n panel, no gain with pods in a hot engine bay.

What makes it a GTZ-R??
Is this some aftermarket sticky or something...

I have been contemplating the airbox as well, since the previous owner threw a poddy in mine too. the default postion appears to very poor for this sort of thing.

Someone told me the stock airbox with a decent K&N is a good idea.

Yea iv seen that car for sale on trademe. Looked pretty mint apart from the sticker and bov. made me think of hondas when I saw the R. I too have been the victim of pod filter vandals on my gtz, so let me know how your guys airboxes turn out as iv been frantically searching for a standard airbox.

best option would be move battery to the boot or similar area and get a custom pipe made up from your inlet to behind your headlight. Then get someone to fabricate an alluminium box made up to sit over the filter etc...done deal

i want to look at a water to air setup? anyone know how to go about doing this?

for the intake?

ive come up with a idea of rotating my battery 90degrees, close to the overflow bottle,

this would require a new batery tray, and securing mounts, but it seems pretty easy, ill then make a box around the pod, and runn a pipe thru the hole, in the engine bay to a collector just below the bumper.

sweet
