Tyre sizes

Postby Blackstripe » Sat Apr 28, 2007 9:43 pm

Hey guys my car (ae101 trueno) has some 15 inch rims and the front tyres are worn. Now all the tyres are size 195 50 15, and I was wondering whats the highest profile i could stick on the front? (Since the right size is becoming hard to find). Could I use a 195 60 15 for example? Would this rub on the guard or have any adverse effects considering the rear would be 50's and the cars nose will be a bit higher? Oh yeah the truenos not lowered and im not experiencing any rubbing  right now. Also if I could stick 60's on the front I reckon it would give it that cool fwd drag car look.

Cheers

You can't find anyone selling 195/50s? you could go up to a 195/55 but much over that and your speedo will be under reading.

195/50/15s are a common tyre size and they are fairly cheap, sell plenty of them. A 60 series will have a significatly higher sidewall and may rub when turning hard lock. Its really a matter of trial and error, hard to say if they will rub or not. I suggest sticking with the same size, by memory we sell bridgestone MY01s for like $130, not too bad 8)

Had a guy come into work with a ST205 with that exact tyre size and said he experienced a little bit of guard rub when there were people in the back. You could possibly overcome that by rolling the guards professionally if you still wanted to run that size.

Oh yeah I forgot about the speedo issue.. but wait wouldnt it be reading from the rear tyres? Incase the fronts lose traction?

Either way your right I guess 50's arent that hard to find, ill be sure to get the same size :D

Cheers guys

ae101 has speedo drive in gearbox. the high profile 15's are for wagons and shit like that. our caldina runs them. you shouldnt have any problem finding 195/50/15's or 205/50/15's.

I've run 195/60/15s on my AE101 BZ Touring, (briefly), they did rub the guard under lock, definitely go for 50/15s, not too much more expensive, make sure you shop around!

i had 195/60/15 on my ae101 standard height and there was definitely no rubbing, speedo seemed accurate too when driving past speed cameras

Standard tyre for 15inch AE101 rims is a 195/55/15 (pretty sure)
If you go to 205/50/15 speedo will be within 1 or 2%

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

i have 15" mags on my ae111, lowered. I was running 195/50/15, thought it looked a tad small, so i put on 195/55/15 when it was time for a tire change. 55's fit great. Think 60 would be too large.
