I am looking for pads for 1996 Celica SS II. Chassis : ST202 and engine : 3SGE.

I want something that is an upgrade on the the factory pads I currently have. I am wondering what have you all used and recommend? I have access to BNT, Repco and Supercheap.

From my understanding, these are my options (bearing in mind $$$$)

Bendix
Ferrodo
Lucas
Silverline

anything to consider or stay away from?

Ferrodo iv found to be a bit hit & miss for an up grade some cars they are the same if not worse for stopping power EE90 ones are a shit up grade over toyota. toyota well out perform them in all aspects like heat wise stopping wear ect but in saying that i know in a mazda about an 86 one with a 1800cc turbo 4WD what ever the model is there a good up grade over factory same with the old ST141 corona except in that there wine & ant so good on the disks

factory ones are quite good....
none of those brands "normal" pads will be an upgrade

stay the hell away from silverline

Agreed. A lot of "performance" pads are absolute shite. They just squeal and make dust. If you really need an upgrade for the street then get a quality high boiling point brake fluid and Toyota pads. If you are still fading then don't feking come near me!

My current pads are squeling and I am looking for an alternative. I am hoping it will solve my problem.

I am looking at Bendix ADVANCE pads, it is for daily drive only. No racing / going fast.

are you current pads standard toyota pads? if so I would be looking at WHY they are squealing before just replacing them, you could possibly have the same issue with a replacement.

Are they doing this due to being low & its the "warning" tab that hitting the disc?

Is there something wedged between the pad & the disc ?

At the mo I am driving a ST202 with standard Toyota pads and I haven't heard a noise coming from them & there has been the odd occasion of heavy braking with them too

To be honest, I am not sure. I just got the car and it has been squeling. I am unsure if they have been squeling due to something wedged or just age. Hence, why I decided to upgrade. I am also unsure if they are Toyota pads.

before I go spending money that may not need to be spent, I'd jack the thing up, take a wheel off and have a look.

chances are its probable that its one of the two above, if its due to a low amount of meat on the pads then Toyota parts will see you fine

take the pads out if not factory toyota pads get some if they already are the take rotors off and have the machined or replace them

you might find the the rotors are worn or have a rusty outer edge that is what is causing the squeal

if you are after a performance option try a TRD pad just as a thought considering that TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development!!!!
