Postby EVL20V » Thu May 17, 2007 1:52 pm

ok well, you floor it and constant blue clouds of smoke pouring out back of car. and fills the cockpit full of blue smoke also 8O
mite need to invest in a full face bio mask  cough cough

are we looking at oil seals and well as rings? wont b 100% sure till we rip it apart, but just so i can get the bits together now. compression pretty much on par

bloody hell

havnt poked a hole in the block have you?

you had a look for leaks? thats a serious amount of oil

if no external leaks, maybe pull valve covers off and see if theres a pile of gunge in the head blocking drain back

what can u make from this leak? have taken valve cover off and seems ok, compression 180 each. spark plugs were a little oil soaked, and white tipped. leak looks to be from head gasket region? big puddle of mush ontop of gearbox

ok, an update, pulled dizzy off and yes was very oily in one part of the oring and could see a trail where it come from

unbelievable how much oil is lying on the gearbox  a few $ worth

inspected o-ring, looked ok, refitted and will check again tomorrow. tightened it up good :P

* also, when idling theres a constant faint blue coming from exhaust and you lift the revs up slowly and at about 3k you get a nice flowing cloud of blue  and keep lifting revs you start to choke and annoy the neighbours. so yea not a healthy silvertop. my old rolla engine was worse and found it to have a cracked piston when the new owner rebuilt it  went hard tho

the never ending smokey saga:

did an urgent top up of oil (1L) of 20-40w lol

was in first gear today just coasting at like 2.5rpm and had a constant stream of blue smoke, slowly lifted revs and had a nice trail coming along. good thing i was on a long street and engulfed a good stretch of 50m with smoke cloud that just hovered  when i stopd in the driveway the cabin was full of blue haze and tail pipes were smoking away. gave it foot flat bursts upto 7000 and it spat out a couple little puddles of oily mess  and the smoke was chronic

rebuild?  8O

You could be lucky and it could be valve stem seals.

Zacs 20v did 400,000 and the valve stem seals were the suspected cause of the smoke.

You can do a pressure test to check if its rings or seals cant you.?.. (not compression test)

a leakdown test?

hmm i want to do stem seals, but then have to get a headset (gaskets etc) then i would just want to take pistons out and redo the whole frikn thing

If you've got the right equipment you can replace the stem seals without removing the head., Just need to put the piston on tdc and get a fitting that screws into your spark plug hole and connect an air line to it, this should keep the cylinder full of air and prevent the valve from dropping into the cylinder when you take the valve srings and collets out,

My 20v did the same thing. 3L of oil for 90km's round Manfeild. Pulled it down and found the oil control rings were stuck. New rings and bearings seeing as it was apart and it's all good. Didn't even give it a hone and it's fine.
See ya

I'd wonder if excessive blowby is throwing oil into the intake. If you take off the oil cap does it vent pressure? IE Blow at you?

the 2 hoses to the intake have been disconnected

doesnt blow smoke when idling or when car is cold, once warm you know about it, and yes going down a hill high revs in second at bottom boot it and smoke clouds galore. also, no hissing or sounds coming from under oil cap
