Removing aircon - SW20

Postby mr2_t » Sat May 19, 2007 4:56 pm

Hi - my car has had the engine-bay compressor and undercar refrigerant pipes removed , and I want to remove some of the interior/front compartment bits as well. After having removed the glovebox there is a huge plastic tank with associated gubbins, with the drain going through the floor.

My question is how much can be removed from under the dash and under the front bonnet, without stopping the normal hot air blowers from working?
I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's done this before... cheers.

not 100% sure for the mr2 but most cars go [fan - air-con - heater]

you can remove the evaporator from the air con section and tape up/block the holes. this isn't much of a weight saving though. you could remove the aircon module all together but that'd be more effort than its worth imo.

in the aw I opened up under the dash, removed all airconbits and closed up and bunged old in/out holes. Under bonnet took outeverything aircon related including the aircon fan. sw may be different, but the only aircon piece I still have it the button on the controls lol

You end up just gutting the core in the heater box. For the hassle of doing it and the weight you lose, it not even worth bothering with. Just remove the pipes, radiator and pump.

The refrigerant pipes and compressor are gone - when you say radiator you mean the condensor thing at the front? Its all starting to look too hard...
