clutch gone?

Postby EVL20V » Tue May 22, 2007 9:12 pm

 the never ending debarkle with this ae101

when cold you take off and intense shuddering and harder to slot into gears and you can push pedal in about 100mm before it begins to engage etc. and when pedal fully in, if u go in and out about 1 inch you can hear noisy springs in action

ideas?

cheers

i think the shuddering is cause by those little springs in the clutch plate, so yea it might be time for a new clutch

Have you got a manual adjustment on your cable? If so, set the freeplay in the pedal first then make sure its still shuddering.
If it is then you are going to need a new clutch, i'd also skim over the flywheel while youré there aswell.

sorry to bring up an old post but it saves a new one aye.

My 101fxgt has started doing the whole shudder thing on cold take offs, not the 1st or 2nd take off, but maybe the 3rd & 4th takeoff of the day, but all fairly close together, feels like its the clutch, but i have no problem getting it into gear or any rebound or extra clutch pedal pushing in.
Any thoughts?

tends to be the beginning of the end once they start that. they take a wee while though if you drive it sensibly.
by the 3rd clutch on my old gt4 i knew the cycle of wearing clutchs and when it was about to go completely

usually the takeup point will slowly get further and further out until its right at the top of the pedal.

Cheers, yeah thats what i kinda figured, but was dreading :(
Oh well looks like i should start saving for a new clutch etc, might be an excuse to get a new gear box while im at it, since i've babied the 2nd gear syncro for 6 years now

if its a 4age clutch they are only 2-300$ for a standard item, and allow for a flywheel skim. its all relatively easy enough to do with a mate helping in your garage.
