ST205 super strut problem

Postby Wolf_Tm250 » Tue May 29, 2007 1:41 am

Hello,

I was wondering if you, in NZ, find a way to solve the chronic problem of the Super Strut suspensions, that makes the front wheels dancing sideways.

This is principally due for the "8" link, and for all the uniball joint fo the suspension...

TIA.

From what I read, it is either replacement parts from Toyota or change to coilover system.

In fact, if you change to new replacement Toyota parts, you'll be "quite" ok for some kms... quite because even a small free play in every NEW uniball will still make the wheel to move a bit...

But... what do you mean with "change to coilover system" ?
What did you read ?

Thanks !

I have the TRD coilovers on my ST205, but this, unfortunately, has nothing to do with the suspension scheme...

Bye !

I'm rallying, or about to rally, a ST205. We swapped out the front end with ST206 front arms, struts and hubs. They simply plug up to the ST205 front subframe. Hence superstrut gone. It hasnt been aligned yet, but it does look promicing in regards to being within tolerances.

I was also forced to go the ST206 disks so that I could fit 15 inch rally rims on and a ST185 twin pot calipers to meet local rallying regulations which ban four pot calipers.

I also own a ST205 road car and must admit to liking the way that car sits on superstrut. The car feels planted with very good turn in (as whales turn).

You can see the rally project in the members projects section.
The answer is Helmholtz!

Interesting !!!

BTW I was wondering if there were aftermarkets parts to make the Super Strut suspension more "stable", fixed...

im not sure i understand what you mean by stable....
if its worn out there will be play in the joints.
if its not worn out... itll be far from unstable!

these things handle very well

Even with brand new parts, changing ALL the joints and links ( that is to say more than 3000 US dollars..... )
you will still have some play.... unfortunately...

Try it...
take a long tool and try to overtorque the wheel's bolts... you'll see this play I'm talking about...
