clutch or ignition?

Postby EVL20V » Fri Jun 08, 2007 9:35 pm

problem: when ever so slightly touching throttle the car sometimes has a fit and jerks (like teaching someone to drive and they bunny hop  )

has a possible worn clutch, also timing was done last week and was spot on. most likely ignition side of things? or possibly could the clutch be $&#$% enuf to "slip" so to speak on full throttle?

cheers

will check under car tomorrow some time. and if u just tap throttle every so often u can hear creaks from the shocks (front and back) ive narrowed the list of problems from this car down from maybe 40 to 20 in 2 weeks

Doesn't sound like a clutch slip to me. A clutch will just let go and then maybe slowly start to grip like your riding the $&#$% out of it. Wouldn't jerk...

That would depend on the condition of the flywheel.

yours is a silvertop isnt it?
does it when cold/not fully warm? and also when u lift off from part throttle?

seems to be a common issue with them....
from my experience its improved by running 98 (if your running 95, or knocking 2 deg off timming if 98 not an option) fitting a NON return oil catch can and cleaning out the air intake of gunk.
checking the TPS could be an idea.

If its only when SLIGHTLY touching the throttle, its not going to be the fuel causing detination.

Do TPS first. Far far more likey its that than anything else.

All the silvertops ive seen or played with had the tps out by varying degrees
