Strange noise in Caldina

Postby MasCam » Sat Jun 09, 2007 5:15 pm

Hoping someone on here might have a clue what is causing this...

When my Caldina is turned on full or almost full lock there is a clonking noise accompanied by a bit of a lurch. It kind of feels like something is loading up and then releasing, it does it mainly to the left but has started doing it to the right as well and I think it has hapened in reverse. It is hard to tell where the clonk is coming from but you can feel it through the seat of your pants and the steering wheel.

The strange thing is that it only happens when it is WET (we don't get much chance to experience this in mosgiel)

The car is a Caldina GT-4 N spec so that means auto, 4 wheel drive, lsd

Hoping someone has some ideas as to what this might be as we have approched the toyota dealers down here and they gave it a quick check and said it was fine.

Thanks in advance guys
Chris

Don't know as I've never had a wheel bearing issue in my life but I would have thought that if that was happening then it would be causing more noise and be evident at other time's as well.

But this is what I am looking for, ideas of where to look, how would you check the wheel bearing :?: :?:
