AW11 - Rusted Screws (Not really technical)

Postby AE86less » Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:35 pm

I started taking off the front bumper today to check the rust behind it (Which seems quite bad). I was using a haynes manual so i know i'm going on the right path, but i hit an obstacle: Rusted screws.

They're the ones along the bottom of the bumper skin.

My dad wants me to grind them off with an angle grinder, but what do the pro's think?

I'm also in the market for the bits behind the bumper skin it seems

Yo this is a very common problem, Warwick can get these new for around $250 landed.

It goes Outer Skin > Foam > Metal.

Clever toyota.

Edit. I did this, Bought all new brackets too. Is best way to fix. Pretty cheap really, bought Ten bucks a bracket. Ex japan.

I just ground the one off that was rusted, was easier than drilling. THey needed to be replaced anyway

grind the heads off, there is no reason at all to drill them out if you are going to replace the beam anyway. If you're not going to replace the beam, grind the heads off anyway so you have something flat to drill from to remove the shank
