Cynos Burning Oil

Postby B ROWDY » Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:37 pm

Righto, my super awesome Cynos-Of-Death (Auto 1500CC) 171,000K on it is eating oil like nothing on earth :( Its not smoking at all, and there are no obvious leaks that we can see, it is mostly used on the open road (around 150k a day on a good day lol) and Ive run it dry of oil twice in the last 5 weeks, Im gonna check it more honest! So what are my options? How long will she go for if I keep her topped up with oil? How will I know when its dying? Will it just drop dead like an old donkey or will it bleat at me some kind of warning?

I'm sure if you keep topping it up it will live forever, at least I hope thats the case with my oil guzzling car. As to why its using it, i'm not sure, sounds like a lot of oil being used tho 8O triple check no leaks

Mmmm thanks Luke :) I think as a rough guess its using around a litre of oil per 1000-1200k? Is that mass amounts? Seems like it is, but Id rather pay for oil than a new car/engine rebuild lol

My sisters cynos uses oil just through general driving, she doesnt trash it and proberly goes thru oil at the same rate you do and its only done 120kms

Must be a reasonbly normal thing for the 4E

Maybe some of the GT starlet boys could shine some light on this situation

That amount of oil isnt normal for any car :)

It must be using oil somehow - if its not coming out the back in smoke, then it must be dripping out...

Check that its not puffing blue smoke when u accelerate - not just in neutral on the spot, but actually driving down the road. (this is a 2 person activity :D)

Check under the engine, around the sump, around the sump plug, down the sides of the block.

Seriously - it has to be leaking from somewhere :)
I'm after these bits for my facelift aw11:
- Ashtray
- Stereo surround
- Front black grill in front of radiator

there is 3 ways iv found E series motors to lose oil

- fuel pump then it leaks & fulls up the cross member & after about 5L you see it out the ends of the cross member took me ages to work that one out

- rear main are common the oil will sit in the bell houseing then when driveing never when sitting will flick out check floor pan & arround the tunnel as this is were it ends up

- out the exuast but its not visable  sit some one in the boot & take for drive

-also have heard of people fulling there timeing cases with oil when the cam seal goes or front main as that case has no drain
The faster you go the quicker you get there

Im going with the "keep it full of oil til it dies" plan, but I checked the oil in the weekend (10 days after last fill) and while it hasnt gone down any its as black as the ace of spades, why does it do that?? Is the Cynos porked??

will just be crap in the engine because the person in Japan was too lazy/cheap to service the car from new  I wouldn't even make it around the block without it becoming pitch black :?
