when one wheel spins at a different speed to the other, the ramps move agains a central pin which pushes away from the pin and puts load on the clutch plates to lock them up. 1way, 1.5way and 2way operate like this depending on the angle of the ramp.
hilux lsd has a spring in the middle which gives preload to the clutch plates and you can shim it up to give a higher preload.
the ramp style mechanical lsd is more performance orientated. hilux lsd still good for street with the correct clutch loading etc
