unplugging sensors having no effect

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sun Jun 24, 2007 5:12 pm

valve clearances on my engine seem fine, so dont think thats whats causing it to be so gutless + foul the plugs. but i've just noticed I can unplug the:

cold start injector
cold start injector sensor/timer
water temp sensor
manifold temp sensor

and none of these effect how the engine runs. I've unplugged them one by one, and also driven the car with all 4 unplugged and it makes no difference at all to how it performs.

do they normally not do much once the engine is warmed up, or is it likely that these sensors are stuffed?

thanks.

as said before the water temp is the only on of those that will have much effect,

but if the water is up to temp when you unplug it, it will go into limp mode and use a substitute warm value so you wont notice a difference anyway.

Unplug it when it's cold and see, but you will need to clear codes afterwards.

Remember there are three water temp sensors, maybe more.
for dash gauge, a/c, fan, ecu etc

Have you checked the cam timing is correct, one tooth out can make it run sluggish,and/or ignition timing. When I say cam timing do the marks and the dots all line up with the marks on the cam backing plate(plate the cam belt covers bolt onto.)

yep that what I was wondering. timing is all spot on, both cam and spark. compression is also all good (above average if anything). ah well, will keep hunting. or maybe put a turbo on, that'll make it go faster!!!!
