Tick Tick Tick sound on my Blacktop

Postby Timoz » Sat Jun 30, 2007 7:11 pm

Hi, i've notice a tick tick tick sound on my black top as i rev up. its quiter when the engine is cold and it's noisier when the engine goes into normal operating temperation. i've visited a mechanic. He say it is a normal sound for a blacktop, he said is the tappet noise and he also said noisy tappets are happy tappets. so i just woundering if it is really the tappets or some other things, thanks

4ages dont run tappits, they be shims and buckets. Could also be injectors ticking, my 3s's injectors are constantly ticking.

could it be the big end bearings or the mains bearings?

Yeah i guess...a mechanic should be able to tell though. Give it a rev if it knocks on the way up and not on the way back down it could be.

Do blacktops also do the broken VVT pulley knock, its reasonably common on silvertops.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

i can hear it clearly with the windows up, the tick tick sound starts from 2k rpm to 5k rpm. And if it's the big end does anyone know how much to fix it?

are you mechanically inclined? should be able to dig up some info using the search optionhow many kms ur engine done. could perhaps be a bent valve? my mates vr4 ran a bearing and the noise was more a whirring sound from 3-5k rpm then would get violently loud about 5.5k rpm and he didnt wana take it further

From lots to shit loads. If a mechanic has said its the shims then why are you worrying about the big ends??

thanks d1 mule, i'll ask those guys for help too. it is so strange that it only does it in a certain range of rpms. i've also been to toyota and one guy told me it might be the valve clearence. so i'm quite confuse wats going on one person says this and another say that.
