JZ Alternators

Postby trd-drifting » Tue Jul 10, 2007 10:39 pm

Ok my 1jz-gte alternator has died and is not repairable :( just wondering if the ge and 2jz-gte n ge alternators are the same or not. Also doe it make a differance what vechical the alternator came from as mine 1jz-gte came from a jzx81. Or should i just fork out the money and buy a new one....

What other vechials have the same alternator that will just bolt straight on. Does anyone have a spare one or better yet a reconditioned one.

Kindest Regards

Josh

As can be read on supraforums:

1JZ Alternator Swap wrote: 1JZ Alternator Swap Found
I noticed many references to the MKIV alternator being a direct swap into the 1JZ. It isn't really a direct swap since the plugs on the alternator are different. I accidentally broke my alternator playing around with it (don't ask), so I did a little research on a replacement. Oddly enough, the alternator from a 1992-1994 SC300 only, not 400, is a direct replacement for the 1JZ. It's a perfect fit, and the plugs are identical, so there's no cutting involved. Just plug and play. The best part? The SC300 alternator is a 110 amp alternator. Oh and another great part? I paid $130 with tax for it, lifetime warranty from Lexus. How about that? Funny that the Lexus part ended up being cheaper than the Toyota part. Anyhow, I thought I'd pass along my experience in finding a direct swap for the 1JZ alternator.

Regarding the 2JZ Alternator on a 1JZ wrote:Okay, this is EVERYTHING that you need to know about the 2JZ alternator, wiring and 2JZ alternator cost. Oh, and ALL of these Part Numbers are from Elmhurst. Curt and Mike are the guys that I go to for 2JZ/7M stuff. Anything related to 1JZ needs to be taken up with Jeff at Champion Toyota.

Anyway,

Alternator: 270606-46200-84 100AMP LIST 309.80 COST 226.73[ ADD 30.00 CORE CHARGE]

2JZ Alternator 3-prong connector: 90980-11349 plastic electrical connector list 6.64 cost 4.91 x1

Now, this is what you need to know for wiring it up.

2JZ alternator:
#1 Yellow/Green (L)
#2 Yellow (IG)
#3 White (S)

1JZ alternator:
#1 White (S)
#2 Yellow/Green (L)
#3 Black/Yellow (IG)

What you need to do is wire in and match up the LETTERS indicating the proper wiring and NOT! the #'s.

So if you are using a 2JZ alternator with 1JZ wiring it should look like:
#1 Yellow/Green
#2 Black/Yellow
#3 White

The markings for #1,#2,#3 are on the 2JZ alternator connector.

Bryan
